Most Important Scene

I think that the most important scene in Death of a Salesman is the scene where Biff catches his dad cheating with the woman. If this scene hadn't happened Biff wouldn't have such a distaste for his Father. Willy would have a better relationship with Biff and he would be a lot happier. This is also important because it gives one of the big reasons why there is so much conflict in this play.

Reading Strategies

1. I want to find out if Willy dies the actual death of a salesman.

2. I think that Biff and Happy won't get the big job they want.

3. I have a picture of 2 men with a woman in between them..One man is macho and hot and one of them is scrawny and weird. It is from The Bridal Party

4. In this part Willy is talking with his boys and talking to Biff about the big game on Saturday and how he will score a touch down just for his dad. Also, Bernard comes in and he talks to Biff about the Regents and how Biff should study for them.


5. Why doesn't Linda do or say anything to Will? Why doesn't Biff say anything to Linda about the affair between Willy and the woman?

I think that Willy says things to Charlie because he needs his pride. Throughout the whole play Willy has had to deal with different people always being better than him. (Ben, Charlie ect.) and he says things like "A man who cannot handle tools is not a man" to help him feel better about himself. Willy takes things too personally. He gets insulted when people give him money and he gets insulted when people try to help him and he got insulted when Charlie gave offered him a job. Although, He didn't get insulted when Ben offered a job he did say that he had a perfectly fine job here even though he knew that things weren't turning out so great. He didn't want Ben or anybody to think he wasn't good enough or manly enough. As I said he needs his pride because, it's the only thing he has left. He lost his job, his favorite son and, because of the mistakes his made his family is in the hole financially.He needs to defend himself by trying to make people feel bad and calling people "Disgusting". Ultimately Willy is jealous of his brother that's why he says things to him but, also his pride is in the way of right thinking.
